  • Hi! If you open the SQL Management Studio and the Database you created for AX, you'll see there are two Bases that have the same name as the two .bak files.

After intense digging, and finding absolutely no information, I decided to backup the databases and try to restore the 2012 R2 .BAK files that came from partner source.

This failed since the database I was importing to was not the same as the one the files had been backed up from.

After some additional digging, I found this website: singuraghavendar.blogspot.fr/.../the-backup-set-holds-backup-of-database.html

In the link above, you will find a query that will allow you to restore the .bak files that came from Microsoft into the AX one. (If the code doesn't work because the base is in use, add: "Use Master" at the top of the query and it will work).

So I did all that, I managed to import the backups, I try to restart the AOS: but it doesn't. It stays on "starting". I reboot my VM, nothing, still "starting" I let it do it's work... and after some time the AOS finally starts and I can open Ax 2012 client. AX is now EXTREMELY Slow, but still, I seem to have all the contoso Data.

There are also 26k notifications which was slowing down the AOS (or at least I think they where). Just click and set them all as read and VOILA! You got yourself Contoso data!

Edit: I made a step by step post here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13816705/how-do-i-install-the-contoso-data-for-dynamics-ax-2012-r2/

  • Hi Loic,

I would like to have the link to download the 2012 R2 .BAK files because  I can't find on partner source site.

    thanks.

  • Mmmm they where in the Demo Files section on the page in partnersource containing the link/presentation/related data to Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012 R2 but the download link seems to have disappeared. It was there last time I checked a couple of days ago..
