the use of Cost center, department and Purpose

Can anyone guide me about the usage of Purpose in Microsoft Dynamic AX 2009. We want to make our reporting system better. How many purpose can we use. How purpose and cost center are linked and different from each other. Regards,

  • The Deaprtment, Cost centre, Purpose are all dimensions in the AX application, it is generally associated for slicing the records in transactions, reports, etc. Purpose and Cost center can be set up as a hierarchy to show matching records in the Dimensions set up. Some companies rely heavily on dimensions if their chart of account structure accounts are more generic, so they can split the data based on the dimensions
