Social Media may be new concept but the way we use this tool has been used by successful businesses for generations. As a tool, social media helps us to build relationships and that is where social media’s true value lies. Consumers are not necessarily sold on your business by the videos you post or the tweets you make. They are sold by the ongoing relationship you create when you engage them in the comments they post about your videos, the comments you post, or by the genuine attitude you portray.

If you think about the businesses that you go out of your way to visit in your daily routine like a coffee shop, local store or even the dentist, why do you go there? Chances are that you feel a connection to the staff or feel that you get better service there. Whatever the reason it’s the mentality that they care about their customers, not just the bottom line, that shines through. So after you are done reading this, go respond to a comment on your company’s Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube pages or send a tweet that engages your followers. Either way, building the relationships is what matters most; it just happens to be that social media is the tool that we use today.
