IT, Business Strategy & Finance – how can they work together?

IT, Business Strategy and Finance

This blog intends to highlight how IT links in with both Business Strategy and Finance.  Far too often IT and new technology is just used or installed as it's the "latest thing" with no thought as to how it can add value to a business, reduce operating costs and help a business achieve it's Business Strategy.  This blog will show exactly how IT can benefit your business and not just be an expensive flashy overhead.  I come from a Management Accountancy background and work for a Consultancy company called Waterstons (www.waterstons.co.uk) in Durham, UK.

In our company the IT department is an integral part of all aspects of our business strategy. We use technology as a business "Enabler" along with well defined processes and procedures.  Most of this is in the form of intranet pages with tables, graphs and reports that are driven from our Dynamics GP database. I have the typical IT strategies such as system performance improvements, server / service availability etc... However my other strategic initiatives include development or process improvement projects that are part of other departments. All will align with the overall company strategy / goals. I look forward to more posts in this area.
