Looking for a way to perform a global search of all records in CRM

Hi - we are looking for a way in CRM 2011 to search for and view for any CRM record from any of the entities. For intance, if you are in leads and perform a search on a name, you could if the name existed as a lead or a contact without leaving leads.

We have some information on the Akvelon Global Search for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 and 2011 add-in so if anyone has feedback on that product we would appreciate that as well.

There is no way to do this out of the box or with any free solutions out there as far as I understand...there is a thread at Microsoft Connect where this request has been made for the product department to add these capabilities to CRM but there is nothing I know off as of now.
