Rollup 15 from CRM2011 crashes looking ofr a copy of server.msi in a folder called c:\crm_temp It is useless downloading the server install and extracting to this folder as the version of the download .exe is too old (it gets updated during an install so that explains that).
does anyone at Microsoft ever test these packages?
The same happened to me as Peter Hale said. server.msi taken from RTM install or RTM with UR6 install is absolutely useless !
I've got the same issue here, it asks for server.msi
I've been in touch with PFE and they don't know about the issue and have asked me to log a call which I am now doing so
The sequence that raised the problem was: UR8 as "baseline", than UR14 (with an Organization that was impossible to upgrade during setup and after manually), than UR15.
I "solved" the issue applying one of the snapshot that brought me back to UR8 and delete the problematic Org. Than I apply UR15 on top of UR8 without any problem.
I think something went wrong in the UR14 setup process.
Hope this could help
Ok, let's hope something works out...
I had the same issue.
You need point the installer at the original media that was used to install CRM originally. I searched around for the original RTM version and once I selected that folder the UR15 installer continued ok.

1. Download Update Rollup 15 : www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx
2. Extract the contents of the UR15 installer by running the following command from a command prompt:
3. Download CRM 2011 Server : www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx then Extract the contents by CRM2011-Server-ENU-amd64.exe /extract command.
4. Install UR15 by running CrmUpdateWrapper.exe( can be found with in Extracted folder of UR 15) and locate server.msi extracted in the location of CRM Server once you get the prompt.
Let me know if this resolve the issue.
Nope - still same issue.
Says the Version of the msi is incorrect.
Have found an original DVD download on TechNet so will attempt using the Server component from there
Update - The Original DVD component works.
This is different to the download available from Microsoft downloads. You need TechNet or MSDN (maybe VL) or a physical original DVD
So Scott is correct if you installed from Original RTM and I suspect Suumit may also correct it CRM2011 was installed from the download with Rollup 6 installed.
Someone slipped up somewhere - they both should work or even better not be required at all.
It's good to know that your issue has been resolved. Can you paste the link for original DVD download here so it would help a lot to other customers if they are facing the same issue ? We have already published a KB article related to this issue : support.microsoft.com/.../2668504
I got it from Technet so one would need a Technet suscription. It is also available on MSDN if you have an MSDN sub.
I do not know if it is available anywhere else - ask Microsoft I guess to make it publicly available
Indeed, we took the image from MSDN and tried, it worked.
