Why are you not able to at least create a custom view for use in a form or update/create a price list item via a worklfow?
Is this going to be possible in via an upcomming roll-up?
What are you trying to accomplish by having a workflow update or create a price list item? Are you looking to automatically add products to a price list when they are created?

Thanks for the response! You are right, I'd like to automatically add products to a price list when they are created ...along with a few other things.
Here is what I'd like to do:
1. Automatically add a price list items when a new product is added
2. Show the price of an item from a price list on the main form of a product via modifying the associated view. (I've read the recommendations on imbedding a custom report, but I'd like something a little more elegant and something my clients can understand and modify)
3. Create a workflow can update price list item prices when a custom field on the product is changed.
I can do 1 and 3 via an external product (Data Snyc Studio), but Ideally I'd like a codeless solution involving workflows so my clients can fully understand and modify what is going on (they are great with workflows).
I'm also concerned that as our needs grow we'll need other customizations to the product pricelevel entity.

Unfortunately I can't offer you any better solutions beyond what you've already mentioned. It would indeed be nice if workflows were opened up a bit more to handle some of this functionality. Hopefully one of the Microsoft support engineers that monitor these forums will take note and get this on a suggestion list for a future update.
Why would this not be customizable? Our sales staff does not use Opportunities because of its complexity with the Product Catalog. I had a really great customization plan on paper to simplify the Opportunity process and a workflow from the Product to the Price List was a huge part of it to totally automate things and reduce key punch and administrative overhead. I was angry and disappointed when I went to create that workflow and found you can't use it against price list items. It has blown a hole in the entire plan to use Opportunities.
