Hi,
I am implementing Dynamics CRM 2011. I am looking for a clean way to allow the sales reps to drill down through the product tree to select the correct product on an opportunity.
The product catalog contains 5,000+ items and is growing quickly. I have built a product tree but am unable to figure out how to utilize this functionality within opportunities. Any and all advice is appreciated.

It sounds like you have some complex product catalog requirements, and the standard CRM product catalog and opportunity item features can become a little cumbersome when the product catalog is large or when many items need to be added to an opportunity.
You could customize CRM to use the Subject tree to add items to an opportunity, but this would take quite a bit of custom development. It's not a standard feature.
Another idea is to use a product configurator add-on. Experlogix is a popular solution for this requirement. http://experlogix.com/
