    Are there any special plug ins or code associated with Recurring Appointments?

    Based on the error provided I would verify that you don't have a custom plugins or workflows running against the entity.  Also as you are getting a SQL Exception error, we would want to capture a CRM Platform trace to get more details about what query is generating the error.
