GP Job Costing feature for Service ompanies

I am currently implementing GP Financials for a client in the Shipping industry, they require a job costing feature/module for service industry.

Can anyone advise whether GP has this capability?

They need to assign Job numbers to AR and AP transactions and then quickly generate a profitability report by each job. (They have hundreds of Jobs in each month). And this feature is available to them in the current system, Peachtree.

Initially I had suggested they could use Analytical Accounting. They found that setting up codes in AA is a bit cumbersome but can be workable.

However, AA can give a report listing all transactions for each job but not a profit figure…… this would have to be calculated manually.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Re: GP Job Costing feature for Service ompanies

    Hi,

GP Project accounting enables projects/jobs to be assigned to all AP & AR transactions allowing for simple profitability and revenue recognition to be performed. All transactions are routed through Project Accounting and linked to AP/AR modules so analysis can be done either via ledgers or by individual project.

Project Accounting is a larger module and takes quite some time to setup but for simple job costing use should be straight-forward enough. I installed full GP including project 9 months ago into a service/manufacturing corporation and it does a great job for us. Profitability reports are already in-built but SQL or smartlist reports provide greater flexibility.

    Regards,

    Chris.
