    MSDTC Error in AxDbUpgrade.exe

    Hello!

I am trying to upgrade from Ax 3.0 to 5.0, I have done all preparation steps
mentioned in the upgrade document. Now when I try to run AxDbUpgrade. exe,
it gives me an error instantly:

    SqlState 24000, NativeError 0: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server
    Driver]Invalid cursor state

I've been searching for the cause of this error and some posts specify that
it's because of MSDTC. I've tried to do all the things they say about msdtc
but the error is still there. Any help would be appreciated.

I am using Windows 2003 SP2, and Sql Server 2000

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: MSDTC Error in AxDbUpgrade.exe

    Hi,

    I have done the upgrade from 2.5 SP 3 to 4.0 SP2

When i was doing the axdbupgrade (3.0 -> 4.0) I always make sure that during the installation of database server, file server & aos , u do not check the run aos when finished install. That's mean it should be blank database.

I'm not familiar with the error message but, i think when upgrade to 5.0, it would be the same.

    Cheers

    Re: MSDTC Error in AxDbUpgrade.exe

I was able to resolve the error by creating a new empty database and then pointing to this new database in the upgrade utility as the target database. I am assuming that the error I got was because of the fact that AxDBUpgrade utility works only once for a database (stated in the documentation). So the problem went away when i used a fresh database.

    Thanks.

I am not sure if I fully understand your question. I was running DbUpgrade on the machine where I installed the AOS.

I was receiving the same error:

SqlState 24000, NativeError 0: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid cursor state

In my case, the solution was to remove the period (.) in my Axapta 3.0 database name!  It had nothing to do with MSDTC.  My database was called "live3.0". I changed it to "live30" and the upgrade worked fine.
