I suggest we create a forum for "Lean Accounting". Dynamics AX supports Lean Execution and we need to start the process of adding Lean Thinking to all manufacturing processes.

I think a Marketplace would be useful where partners can promote themselves within this community. Being able to find local support resources and have some familiarity with their experience and expertise would be extremely useful when marketing products to the general public.

I would suggest a "no reply" property to the forum allowing people to promote themselves all they want without anyone bad mouthing anyone else.

As an alternative, also create a Bar Brawl forum where people can sling whatever they want.

Yes, I'm serious. If a professional wants to get "down and dirty" with someone else, I'd like a structured place for that to happen. I think that type of behavior says a lot about all the participants.

What not think of ROLE based

Step one is to get some questions posted. If you just create lots of forums, its hard to work out what they should all be called, because you don't yet know how the community will react, and what they will ask. If you start creating a lot of Task specific forums, then the comunity members are reluctnat to post if they don't find a forum that exactly matches the the task they are currently involved in.

For now, keep the Forums more generic. Once you get 20-50 posts in a forum, then you can look at the trend, and decide how they should be split up. Community Server has great tools to move threads and posts and to split threads in half and move them to other forums.

Further to this, since its a business oriented forum, rather than thinking in terms of topics for forums, it may be more useful to think of organizing the form in terms of roles.

By making theforum more role based, it will be easier for people to configure things like RSS from a "non-techie" point of view, and set up a reader personalized to the role of that community member. So for instance you may have forums such as "CFO-insurance",  "Accountant-Manufacturing" etc. Or even nicer, would be to create Forums called "Susan" "Sean" etc.

But either way, once the community starts posting questions, you will see what forums you need.

    Mason,
I am North American based, but asked one of my European friends for some guidance.  Credit goes to Giuliano Cipolletti of Observing Srl in Milano Italy.

    • Dynamics NAV should be able to handle IFRS reporting out of the box.
    • For revaluation of a fixed asset, there is a standard fixed asset posting type - Appreciation - that could be used.
    • Usually two registers are created - one for the fiscal books and one for IFRS.  This way you can have two different vaulation and depreciation methods.
    • Common report used is 5610 - Fixed Asset - G/L Analysis

Also there is a IAS 2005 Compliance document published that may help you.  I am not sure how to attach a document to this post.  Maybe craigde will give us a hint as to how to share.  If you have access to PartnerSource, you can find the document here.  If you have access to CustomerSource instead, I would bet there is a similar link, but I don't know how to test it.

Thanks for the great answer John and the pointer to the doc. We are working on enabling file sharing functionality within the community which will allow people to upload and share things like this and also things like office tmeplates etc. Hopefully it will be ready to roll soon. In the meantime Mason if you want a copy send a mail to me at craigde@microsoft.com and I will mail the doc to you directly. Same goes to anyone else who reads this an may want it.

Re: What additional forums do you think we should add?

How about a video game industry forum?  I work in a relatively young industry - video game developement.  I could really use some peer advice on integrating accounting procedures into a corporate culture which has had little to no previous experience with standard accounting practices.  Surely there are other accountants who have found themselves in this industry and are facing similar challenges?  We could help each other!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We are taking them all in and thinking about what changes we should make. Watch this space.
