    Merger of Two Companies

Our company has merged with another company.  We both use GP, however one is currently on Release 8 and the other is on release 9.  The company currently on 8 has approximately 25 databases; the company on release 9 has 9 databases.  We anticipate having the Release 8 company on 9 by Monday.  We would like to merge the two into one.  The two companies use multi-currency, but do not have standardized currency ID's.  There are several third party products in place.  Should we upgrade the companies to 10 and then merge, or merge on release 9 and then upgrade?    Has anyone done this before?  What steps should we follow to accomplish this?

Thanks for any help I can get.

I think you should verify that both SQL servers are running the same sort order before planning your merger.  (Query:sp_helpsort (in text mode)).  If they are not the same sort order you have a much bigger task ahead.

Also, you don't indicate whether you are on BRL or module basis - the systems both should have the same selection of additional dictionaries (and third parties).

I would upgrade v8 to v9 first.  Create the v8 companies in the existing v9 system and do backups from the upgraded system.  Restore these into the existing v9 system.  Resolve user issues and note problems.  Upgrade then to v10.  Need I mention backup extensively?
