Migrating CRM 4.0 to a new server

Hi. I am new to CRM and this community.

    Here is the case.

We install and configure CRM 4.0 to a Vmware Server environment (virtual machine) for trial period. Now we are using it very effectively. However, the virtual machine that CRM running on it is very slow right now because of the database interactions and increasing users. Now we decide that we should migrate CRM 4.0 to a physical server which has a good configuration. I first tried V2P solutions from HP (Server Migration Pack) but it was unsuccessfull so I dedice that make it that migration manually. My question is, how can we migrate CRM 4.0 to a new server. What path should I follow for OS, database etc.

     Thank you.

     hi,

crm keep all installation data in database so you can re-install the crm with showing existing database. There is an implementation guide for crm that include this type installation configuration.

You can download crm implementation guide from this address :

Broadly speaking you install CRM 4.0 on the new server and you can then restore the VMWare CRM DB onto the new SQL server and add it in via the deployment manager. The implementation guide gives information on this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1ceb5e01-de9f-48c0-8ce2-51633ebf4714&DisplayLang=en Leon Tribe

    Yes thats right by Leon.

and if you have any custom aspx page you must not forget to add the dlls (in BIN) as well as pages (in ISV).

if you make any changes in old system after migration/deployment and needs to implement those changes in new system, it needs the whole complete step like database restoration and file copying...

Really Microsoft must give us an instaler like package to do the deployment/re-deployment :)

    Hope Microsoft hear us !!!

This is from a Dynamics Consultant's perspective but I did not read (unless I missed it) any plans of a three server configuration for the deployment.   If the system is going to be that busy then it would seem that a seperate Instance SRS server should be deployed and the application server should not run on the SQL server.

Given the hits that the application pool is going to handle I would give the Application server all the CPU it needs.

That being said, I often see issues with a AD forests when a single machine deployment is upgraded to a more robust deployment of  the resources needed.

    I totally agree with Curt.

Offcoure i have seen lot many issues related to the performance and many ppl migrated from virtual machine to the new H/W.

But my suggestion would be it would be good if u look for a good Hardware rather than using of the same like the VPC.

As in general if u use the same H/W Configuration i guess you could achieve hardle ~10%  increase in performance.

My suggestion is go for a good H/W Configuration and also see that if u use a seperate server of SRS that would really make ur CRM run faster.

I have implemented the same manytimes and i found it to be excellent doing this way.

    Thanks.
