We are currently getting ready to go live with our Dynamics GP.
We have been running various Payroll runs in our test system, but none in live, yet.
I was able to do a year end History backup, and open a new year end for our test system that we had data in, but our other systems will not allow me to do this.
When I try to Copy Data to History for year end, it says that this process has already been run. Which it has not, for this company.
If we skip the copy to History step, and just open the next year (it really doesn't matter, we don't have any data in there anyway, since we have yet to go live) It says that it opens properly, but the date seems to still be stuck in 2011.
We are currently at a loss as to how to get a new year started at this point.
Is this GP 2013? I do not recognize the Copy Data to History option. Is this something you are doing within GP or SQL? Are you creating your year-end wage file? I will need to fire up GP 2013 soon. Perhaps they added history tables to payroll.

There is no longer any need to copy payroll data to an archive table. All you do for payroll year end is create the W-2 file for the current year, check the values to your 941 reports and print the W-2's. The year to year data is stored in the system and is available on reports by setting reporting dates or looking at historical inquiery windows.
I think I should clarify that this is for run under Dynamics GP, Tools, Routines, Payroll-Canada, Year End File Reset.
And, as you've likely figured out, this is for Canada Payroll.
The Highlighted 2011 is supposedly the next year that we will be opening. If I click the "Copy Files to History", it starts, but then says this has already been done. Which, to my knowledge it has not. If we skip this step (which doesn't matter, because there is no valid data in here anyway) and do the "Reset Employee Master" it runs, and says the new year opened, but when we look at certain items, it looks like we are still in the same year.
We have two test companies, and one live. One test company was used to test payroll. I ran the year end on that, and it ran fine. Then I proceeded to try the other two, and I ran into the problem I specified above.
Someone suggested it was because there was no data, so we created a batch run, and ran it, and then deleted it. Same issue arose.

I am sorry but I'm not familiar with Canadian payroll. Now that you've clarified this maybe a Canadian P/R person can asssist.
