I am running GP 10. My work stations are Windows XP. I am going to upgrade my workstations to Windows 7. How do I launch GP 10 on my work station? What is the procedure.
There are two ways to do this:\
Option 1) You have an installation package. This is something that was created during the initial installation. You would have to look on your server for something labelled GP Installtion Package. If you can find this just run the setup.exe program and it will make all the connections for you.
Option 2) You have the installation media located some where on your server or you have the GP installation DVD. Either way run the setup.exe and then answer questions pertaining to the name of your server.
If you require additional assistance, look on your server in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\Documentation folder. There were will find installation.pdf. This will give you all the details on how to perform client installation.

In addition to the fine advice from both Mr. Whaley and Mr. Wheeler, be sure you end up with the same build number on the new workstation as the existing workstations. Look at the existing workstation's Dynamics.set file to get an idea of with products you need to check off when you get to that window of the installation that asks you what to install. Also look at the DYNAMICS.SET file to determine whether you have any third-party applications.
After completing the workstation installation, STOP; do NOT launch GP or GP Utilities. This next step is kind of a cheat way to do this, but it usually works if you do not have any 3rd party apps that require something special that must be installed to the registry or that need special .dll files to run, copy the entire workstation application folder from an existing machine to your new machine and overwrite the folder you just created. Open the DYNAMICS.set, DYNUTILS.set and the dex.ini files (the dex.ini is located in the Data sub-folder) and make sure that the pathnames are correct for the new workstation.
As Mr. Wheeler mentioned, if this is a 64-bit machine, GP will be installed in the \Program Files (x86) folder instead of the \Program Files folder. If you copied the GP folder from a 32-bit wkstn, you will need to change the paths to point to the \Program Files (x86) folder.
I'm working today, so if you want to e-mail me the Dynamics.set, DEXUTILS.SET and Dex.ini files from an existing workstation, I'll be happy to look inside and let you know what products you have installed (including 3rd parties), and which lines look like they might need to be changed in either of those three files. Also, be sure to tell me if your new machine is a 64-bit machine. An easy way to tell is if it has a \Program Files (x86) folder, it's a 64-bit machine.

The same as for XP

I have purchased the new Windows 7 disk and licinse to load on my work station that is running XP. I will load and do a custom install. GP10 is on my server. How to I download and install GP 10 from my server?
If you are going to do a clean install of W7 and wipe out everything on the local system, you need to do a client install of GP just as it was originally done. Get the DVDs and install the SW. Make sure to use the same named ODBC driver as other workstations.
If you are unsure how to do this, contact your partner.
If your GP installations are done using a package file then GP will install just as it did before. The only difference maybe that the code goes into the C:\Program Files (x86) folder as opposed to C:\Program Files if your W7 machine is 64 bit. If you do not have an install package just use whatever media you had before.
My employee that had done the original install no longer works for me, I have a small business. I am tech savy and trying to learn this. How would I lauch GP 10 from my server onto the work station that I update to windows 7? How do you launch it from the server? Can someone give me the steps?
