I really do not understand what the dex.ini does. I know it contains settings that can be altered and that is about it. I want to get a better understanding of what it is and does. I have looked online and no true answer to what it is/does. Hopefully someone will ignore my ignorance and assist an entry level IT guy or at lest direct me in the right path.
If you open the Dex.ini file in the notepad, you can get some idea about what kind of data is stored in that file. The configuration in the dex.ini file is used when you start GP. If you start GP that is installed in the Citrix server, then that GP will use the dex.ini in the GP folder in the Citrix Server. In the same way, if you start GP that is installed in the SQL Server, it will use the dex.ini in the GP folder in that Server.
You will a dedailed listing of the various dex.ini settngs here.

To use properly the DEX.ini file in a TS / Citrix environment, have a look at David Musgrave's blog posting about the subject : blogs.msdn.com/.../why-making-the-dex-ini-file-read-only-is-evil.aspx
I personally prefer the option with the %HomeDrive%%HomePath% and use a batch file to start the GP client on the Citrix server, so it can check the presence of the DEX.ini file for the first-time users.
