Hello,
I am currently having an issue printing the "SOP Blank Picking Ticket Entered" report as a word template. I have modified and worked with a number of word templates in the past, and this seems to be the only one causing me error. The client has the WORD developer add-on installed and functional. The client actually has a extensively modified report writer document and wanted to convert that into a word template (where-in all the necessary fields would be available to use from the data source in the template).
However, I have attempted converting the standard GP version of this report (saving as XML, coverting with the template generator) and uploading it through 'Word Template Maintenance' as an 'original' version of the report, then making modifications to it and re-uploading the newest, edited version. I have assigned the company access to the report and set it as 'default'. The user is also a poweruser.
As soon as I go to 'Print Sales Documents' from the Sales module and print an order as a picking ticket, I will choose either 'standard' and 'template' and they both open up a report writer version of the report, not a word template. I have checked the 'Template Configuration Manager' and all reports are selected, with all checkboxes for every option marked. Oddly, I cannot find the specifically named report on the list...
Ultimately, I would like to have a template with the data source coming from the modified report writer version, however, even getting the standard word template to print would be an accomplishment at this point.
Any help that could be provided would be amazing. Thank you very much.
I think the problem is with your security setting. In this case, if you select template and it prints the standard rw report, then it can't find the template. That could mean that you have gp security set to a modified report and you imported the template as original, or vice versa. If that's the case, change your security to print the original report, then make sure the word template is original and set as default. Then it should work.
Thank you for your response Dave. I will check out the security settings for that one client in GP. Are there any reasons that you would know of, that would prevent the 'Report Destination' window from opening when printing a report? I am attempting to print a different template (whose security is set to the correct type of report: original), yet the 'Report Destination' window does not even appear to select 'Template' or 'Standard'. It automatically prints the standard RW version, and I have a word template loaded.
Btw, this applies specifically to the "Customer Statement" report from Routines, in the Sales module. I understand that you can disable the report destination window for Posting, etc.
The customer statement is a little different. In the print receivables statements window, there is a destination button at the bottom. You have to click that button and that will open the report destination window where you can adjust what report to print.
Hi Dave,
Thank you for the tip regarding the customer statement, I got that sorted!
My main issue still confuses me: I have the ‘SOP Blank Picking Ticket Order Entered’. The report is modified in Report Writer (as I added a few fields). I exported it as “Standard” and an XML file. I then used the ‘template generator’ to create a word template and can see the added fields on the template.
From here, I imported the template as the “Modified” SOP Blank Picking Ticket Order Entered report in ‘Template Maintenance’ (as it would only let me import it as modified, not standard…..which is correct that it SHOULD be modified). I set the ‘default’ company setting to the current one I am logged into. When I attempt to print it from the ‘Print Sales Document’ window, the check-boxes are defaulted to ‘standard’. When I change it to ‘template’, I only get the modified RW report. Both ‘standard’ and ‘modified’ bring up the modified RW version, I cannot get the template to pull up at all.
In alternate modified forms and reports, I have this report set to “modified”. I am thoroughly confused.
Sounds like you have everything set up correctly. In the report destination window, when you select template, try marking file and selecting a local location for the docx file. Also mark screen and see what it does then. When you mark file, make sure the save as type is word document. See if that changes anything.
I ended up starting from scratch and paid full attention to the security settings and report settings (selecting 'modified', etc) and I finally got the SOP Picking Ticket to print successfully on a word template! Before I verify your answer, I just have one more quick question:
I can only print my word template from the 'Sales Order Transaction' screen on the left side of the 'Sales' module (the reporting shortcuts). I can select an order and it will print to my word template. However, if I attempt to print from the 'Print Sales Documents' window in my Sales Module screen, it will only print the same order as my modified RW version. It is strange that I can do this successfully in one window, and not the other, even though they are the same document. In the 'Print Sales Documents' window, it also gives me the option of printing "Back-ordered items" while I cannot do that in the other window. I also need to default the Report Destination screen to 'Template' which it does not currently do.
Any advice regarding this final issue? Thank you so much for your help thus far. Atleast I have it printing in one location!
If it's printing the exact same report, it should give the template. There are a few different picking tickets. If you print the report to the screen, what does it say at the top of the screen output? Is it Sop Blank Picking Ticket Order Entered or is it something else? For templates that are generated with the template generator, you cannot get the report destination to default to the template. It will always default to standard for those.
I ended up realizing that we had our 'sa' user set as a different ID class thus it would not print the modified RW report. I was then able to successfully get the SOP Blank Picking Ticket Order Entered to print as a word template, with all fields to be added.
I still can only get the SOP Blank Picking Ticket Order Entered printed from the 'Sales Order Transaction' listing, and not from the entry window itself when you lookup the order number. Both are set for 'Blank Form'. This is not a huge issue as atleast the report prints, however it is still annoying.
Thank you so much for all of your help. Take Care.
