i was trying to backup the database when exiting the manger when i got an error about abnormal exiting of database any suggestions ?
One thing to remember, you must backup to a local device.

here is the msg cannot open backup device ........... operating system error 5 (error not found) BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally .
One can backup from the Server to a local Server's drives only. No networked drives
you mean from the Store Operations Administrator ? please be more specific how to connect
Admin or Manager on the Server machine.
when i open the Store Operations Administrator i press connect then when i press the local server then the database name and write the username :sa password :******** it connects to server but not to the database

You are on the right track, but choose the database before clicking ok, or after connecting, go database/select and choose the database.
Easier to do it from the manager on the database server.

you don't get it when i select as local and try to select the data base my database(MSRMS) isn't there it is just master and....... etc the default ones
maybe you have two sql servers going, so maybe your server is 'mymachine\sqlexpress' instead of just 'mymachine'
What is the setting to connect in so / config/ database?

Username:sa
Password: ******
Database :MSRMS
Connection timeout :60
and btw im the only device using it so??!!! what to do please mention STEPS LIke 1-goto XXXX==>XXX ==>xxxxxx
Oh ok.
1. Open Store Ops Admin
2. Click File / Connect
3. Enter 'OSOS96\SQLEXPRESS' in server
4. Check sql authentication
5. Enter sa for user
6. Enter password
7. Click on down arrow next to database drop down
8. Wait for it...
9. When you get a drop down choose your database
10. Click ok
11. Click Database / Backup
12. Follow the bouncing ball

well jerry thank you but still no luck see when i followed your steps which i actually did before it asked me where i want to save and i selected desktop and a random name and then it gave me the same error

Hi Omar,
I had a similar issue when I recently set up our system. My server is running on Win7. I had to add permissions in Windows for the SQL user to write to the desired backup folder.
Otherwise, have you tried to save the backup into the same folder where the database resides? That folder probably already has the proper permissions. After completed, you could then move the backed up file where you want.

Maybe it is a windows security issue.
I would also ask if your user has folder write permission.
