Create a folder C:\Backups.   Backup to that folder.  If that works, its a permissions issue.

I've posted here numerous times backup routines that use Task Scheduler for some VBS scripts, here it is again: dl.dropbox.com/.../Backups.zip  

For systems we setup, we backup the SO/HQ SQL database(s) every hour (:45 & :50) and then use Norton Ghost/Backup Exec/Acronis etc to backup all incremental changes every hour, on the hour.  The Master/Model/Msdb are backed up weekly in the middle of the night.

Edit them with Notepad, they also use the C:\Backups folder noted above, edit each script to change the SQL password that you use and on both the SOBack.vbs and HQBack.vbs also change the database name.
