Is there a way in Dynamics 365 for Operations to load demand history? The demand forecasting functionality uses historical data to generate a statistical baseline forecast, but for new customer with no history or when a customer adds a new product in and still wants a forecast (based on a similar product), there doesn't seem to be a way to manage this.
I can see there is a way to remove outliers but effectively this is done by use a query to restrict what historical transactions are included. But no the ability to add in history.
Not sure if you've found the answer to this or not, but there is an "Historical external demand" data entity (Workspaces | Data management | Data entities | Historical external demand) that will populate a table with external demand for you. This is where the demand forecasting will get the historical information for you.

Not very much sure if Historical external demand entity will help. As i tried the same but didnt get data on front end. I am working on the issue.
Hi, I'm facing a similar issue where I used the sample CSV file to import historical data for an item into D365FO. But once I import the file into the system and copy the data to the target table from the staging table with bare minimum data (Item number, demand date, demand quantity, site and warehouse), I find that the system doesn't take the data into consideration when running a forecast. Is there a step which is missing in between?
NJK, did you found a solution to the forecast not taking into consideration the historical? I'm experiencing the same issue
This way works for me.
- Add the Items with historical demand to Item allocation keys.
- If you have product dimensions import these as well with historical data file.
- Run Generate statistical baseline forecast for this Item allocation key.
