I have a large number of projects and subprojects that I want to import through Data Management. I have tried using the Projects entity. This works if I set the Projectid to automatic in the Data Management project (if I don't, I get an error message that the dimension value doesn't exist). And after that I can do another import for the subprojects and specify the Parentid. But, I want the projectid for the subprojects to be "parentid.xx", in my case it just creates a new projectid without the "xx". The best way would be if I didn't have to set the Projectid to automatic and just specify it in excel instead.
Does anyone have any idea how I should do this?
Do you have project id as a financial dimension? I have tried to load project to D365FO using Projects entity, in the excel file I have specified Project Ids for project and sub project (instead of auto-generating them) and in worked well.
Hi, thanks for the reply. Project id is a financial dimension value. The error message I receive is:
Results. The dimension value P000123 does not exist for dimension Project in the specified values -1234---P000123------.
Things to try:
• Make sure that the value for dimension Project exists.
• Make sure the order of dimension values matches the active format for data entities.
Results. Error found when validating record.
Have you tried 2 steps upload, i.e. in the first run you will create all projects and subprojects without specifying financial dimension in the import file for projects. Then create another import file that will have only project id and financial dimension fields and in 2nd run you will update exisiting projects to set correct financial dimension.
Thank you! This worked!
Good to hear :) if your issue is solved, please mark the answer that helped you as verified.
Like NataliiaS mentioned, you indeed have to do it using two steps. The project dimension value will be only available once the project is inserted. When you directly provide the dimension values in the first upload, it is not created yet, which will cause this error.
