Description of problem:
The Open table browser privilege does not give access to the Table Browser when added to a role. Only the Sys Admin role seems to have this access. This is a HUGE problem as taking away sys admin is a must and we still need people to have Table Browser access
Error message: You are unable to navigate directly to this menu item Sys Table Browser
Repro steps: Created new Role Added Open table browser privilege to role Removed Sys admin from user Added new role to user Attempted to open Table Browser - could not
I had a quick conversationwith one of the specialists and he exlained that Table Browser was removed from Production a year ago on purpose (by design). You can't and shouldn't use it. However, I am not sure if that applies for a UAT environment
Could you please explain why people in a regular role would need access to the table browser?
In general this would not be common practice and be solved by other methods (custom menu / bi report / whatever else).
I can imagine that a table browser form would be handy in case you provide a view only role for e.g. consultants in production environments. Then they could have a look at possible data issues. The first recommended way is viewing data on forms, reports or e.g. using the Excel export/add-in.
If a person is not a system administrator, you can indeed get this error. In that case, add a menu item to the menu. In that case, it is not seen as a direct navigation.
I had seen this issue a few times before. I did not have the opportunity to look for another solution yet.
The privilege 'Open Table browser' seems to be misleading. It shows to be part of duty/role leading to 'Information technology manager', however once you assign the role, it still doesn't give you access to table browser. In fact user need to have 'System administrator' role to browse any tables.
Hi Satish. I appreciate your input.
I told the customer that they shouldn't use the Sys Table Browser and it's been removed from Prod on purpose.
However, they replied this:
"I believe access to edit the table browser was removed. I should still be able to open the table browser though. There are certain things, ASN records for example, where this is the only way to see the information as there is no front end form."
any thoughts on this?
Is this ASN a customization or standard features? If there is no form, it can be developed. This would then also provide the option to apply the security on the form with ASNs correctly.
In addition to what Andre mentioned above. If you are using standard ASN import process, then the form can be accessed from "All loads" > Ship and receive tab > Packing structure.. this is where all Pallets/Case/Items are shown.
You are correct in saying table browser edit access is removed @ production, however even for read-only, no standard role except 'System Admin' provide read only access based on what we have discovered so far. Is customer comfortable in providing 'System admin' access to a user who is interested in looking at ASN data (probably receiving /inbound receipt person)... i don't think customer would be as it would open up everything else to that resource as well. Try identifying the form if standard D365, if custom ask dev to create the form as well.
