Is there a way to import export the security roles that we create individually.
I use export option under data tab. A xml file will be exported and when i try to import it in other environment, it will tell me that the role already exists. I have no option to tell replace or overwrite.
should import all the custom roles every time?
Use data management framework import export security artifacts from one environment to another. There are lot of data entities available under Data management workspace. Filter for the word "Security" under Data entities form, hopefully you will be able to find out something that you are looking for. Please verify and let me know how it goes.
If you have this error, you have created objects in both environments manually. They will have a different GUID-id, but the same description. This is causing the import.
It is recommended to load the full file, but you can also try to edit the XML before importing it. E.g. you can align the GUID id. You can also first delete custom objects before importing the file and have all environments using the same GUID.
I tried to delete the existing security roles and tried to import the xml file with only the new role. but i got 'unknown error'.
How do i find the guid ID?
The GUID is only visible in the XML file. You can search for e.g. the role name in an XML viewer or Notepad and see which GUID is used as reference. Try to only change the GUID for the duplicate objects instead of deleting a larger part. Probably, the file lost some important information and got corrupted as valid XML file.
