Is there a way to increase the character limit for internal and/or external comments in the time entry area? I tried to customize the external comment field to 2,000 and it is still stuck at 100 even after I published all customizations. We report our time entries to clients and 100 characters are definitely not enough to write proper descriptions.
Hi kktomko. At least in PSA V2 the limit is 100 characters. You can always create a new field and then push that info on to Project Approvals. If you use PSA V1 or V2, you would in this case need to submit Time Entries by using the main form instead of the hard coded calendar view. However if you also need to have that text on the resulting Actuals and Invoice Line Details, the approach will be more complex.
Thank you. Are you saying V3 does not have an 100 character limit? How can I verify which version I have?
Try asking your system admin.
He can check it in Office 365/Admin/Admin centres/Dynamics/Your instance/Solutions/Project Service Automation.
I also believe that in version 3 the limit has been lifted.
I am the system admin. It looks like we have version 1. Thanks!
Are you on version 8.2 or 9.0 of D365 CE? If you are on 9.0, you should update PSA to V2.
For PSA V3 you can change the field from 100 characters to a higher number however remember that in that case you also need to double check and change each and every field in the entire "PSA process". This means at least the following entities:
Time EntryJournal LineProject ApprovalActualInvoice Line DetailI went as far as Project Approvals with a 1000 character field but didn't try this out further.
We're on 8.2 and are scheduled for an upgrade on 10/19.
Thank you for your response. I'm hoping I can upgrade and confirm the increased character limit after our upgrade.
Ok, remember that when your D365 CE is updated to 9.0 (or 9.1 if that's already available on the 19th), you also need to update the PSA solution to version 2 from the solutions section under the D365 admin center.
Unfortunately the limit is in place in PSA V2 so you need to wait until you can update to V3 before you can get around it.
Good to know. I was hoping V3 would be available to me after our upgrade.
At the moment existing organizations can't be updated to V3. An upgrade path from V2 will be announced later.
Please mark my answer as verified if the issue is resolved. This way the thread will be marked as completed.
Rule #1 : be to the point. 100 chars is enough.
Rule #2 : if you can't be to the point, create multiple time entries
