I am wondering if there is a way to assign resources and effort to the summary task and not individual subtask.
We would like our teams to assign time against the Summary task vs. individually assigning time against the subtask. If we allocate effort and resouces against the subtask, with the confusing time entry view it becomes very difficult for people to assign time, hence the question
Workaround A: do not create subtasks at all if you want resources to record time against parent tasks only.
Workaround B: add resources to subtasks but limit what tasks are displayed to user on time entry in the default view by excluding irrelevant tasks (tasks for completed projects, tasks marked as complete, tasks planned for other months etc.
I hope it helps.
Thank you for your prompt reply matthew.
Can you kindly elaborate on how do we hide the subtasks from appearing on the timesheet. Also will these perticular subtasks be a Zero effort subtasks? I do want the project Budgeted vs. Actuals to be calculated accurately based on the time sheet entries, without having to put my team through the hellish interface of drilling deep into task level and assign time against that.
