We're a professional service company, working to a project schedule and booking/forecasting resource requirements is important. When we make changes to the project schedule (e.g. longer task duration or greater effort) I'd expect the schedule board to update appropriately, but it doesn't. Is that how PSA is designed (i.e. project schedule and schedule board are not directly related)? I've tried to use the extend bookings feature in the resource reconciliation tab, but most of the time it doesn't book/extend bookings (?go figure)?
Basically, PSA is very poorly setup (or incredibly inefficient at the very least) for ongoing project management, which i thought would be a key objective of the solution?
Is anyone else experiencing this of is it just the way the OOB is setup and my lack of knowledge?
For product suggestion, I would recommend you share it in experience.dynamics.com/.../
Also, do PSA experts have any ideas on this problem?
Firstly, extend booking works fine. if it is not working for you, please raise a support ticket and it will be resolved.
Is there a way for the schedule board to show resource assignments rather than resource bookings? This might result in a more fluid schedule board but (1) not sure if this is possible and (2) not sure what impact this may have on the broader PSA?
Here you can read about what happens to various records when you update tasks or move the project's start date:
It is not possible to display resource assignments on the schedule board in standard.
It is true that URS allows you to schedule ANY entity (including resource assignments) and thus make it appear on the Schedule Board but... just because it is technically possible doesn't mean that it is a good idea. I think it may potentially become confusing. But who knows it may work well as well in your case. Please let us know in case it does!
I hope it helps.
