A client of ours is getting a different user experience in Outlook when sharing a document as an attachment from another application. The scenario is that a document is created or edited in Word or Excel and the document is then being shared as an attachment via the mail client, which is Outlook.
If Outlook is open prior to the start of this cycle, then the Dynamics 365 ribbon is visible in Outlook and is active, and the user can "set regarding" the email to an Account, Contact or other entity. If Outlook is not open prior to the start of this cycle, then the Dynamics 365 pane is visible but is inactive (grayed-out) and, therefore, the set regarding action can't be performed.
The client is using Dynamics 365 online (9.0) with a desktop client for Outlook.
Is this the expected behavior? Is there a way to have the Dynamics 365 pane active even if Outlook is not open initially? Or is the behavior due to running the desktop client for Outlook?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
I think it is a feature they forgot to include. Hence I have made an idea at the Idea site. Please go vote here: experience.dynamics.com/.../idea
I believe this is how it behaves as the outlook client does not attach to D365 when opened after the Cycle. Not ideal and you should report to Microsoft but I doubt they will fix this in the Client for outlook as all their effort is going toward the D365 app for Outlook.
Thank you for pointing out that this has already been requested on the experience site. I've voted this idea up!
Bac, this is related to the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook. As Marianne suggested, I've voted this idea up on the experience site. Thanks for your response!
