It has been mentioned to me in regard to different versions of the Dynamics/ CRM app Full version of Dynamics 365 App for outlook or the lightweight version.
As far as I am aware the new Dynamics 365 App for outlook is considered the full version with no need to install just deployed for eligible users via settings.
The full Version with all functionality is that being used within Outlook 365 via the Dynamics 365 button.
There is a lightweight version of this which is the Web only version
There is a downloadable version which is used in conjunction with CRM 2011 etc this has to be remotely downloaded on individuals pc's and does have a lot more issues from my experience.
I do remember using a CRM for Outlook Wizard as part of this.
Is this all correct and going forward there is no full downloadable version or lightweight as such just web and outlook via the app as opposed to the downloadable old client.
Any advice would be much appreciated
I think you are confusing 2 products. You have the App for Outlook which is set through D365 and no real deployment on the desktop side. (some call this the lightweight version)
There is the CRM outlook add-in that is installed on the desktop and and add-in for Outlook which is available for all D365 and CRM versions (soon to be deprecated)
Here is a good blog describing them
