I want to update required attendee (just one user from user entity) and hence I export all the recurring appointment from advanced find view. I added user in the required attendee column and when trying to import this data through OOB import, the import fails with the error that the file is not in the required format.
The same works fine for regular appointment. Let me know how to achieve this.
Unfortunately, this is not possible with OOB way to update required attendee of more than one objects.
The field "required attendee" is of type Party List, there is no way of importing party lists for multiple objects through the standard import tool.
You will need to use a third party importing solution such as Kingswaysoft's ssis toolkit - www.kingswaysoft.com/.../ssis-integration-toolkit-for-microsoft-dynamics-crm
Please refer to the answer from Scott Durow (MVP) in this theme: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/microsoft-dynamics-crm-forum/177994/crm-2013---fields-of-type-party-list-are-not-supported-by-data-import
Lu Hao Are you sure? I just exported a list of appointments as an excel file and replaced the required attendee by another user name and it worked. the import was successful and it pointed me to the new user. That being said, it will work only on a single name and you can't have multiple attendees in the excel sheet.
The appointments works just fine for updating the required attendee (one user of course). Did you try updating required attendee for recurring appointments? This doesnt work for me.
Thanks Lu Hao for the details. Unfortunately, I dont find any sample code on how to form the partylist fields to get it work in Kingswaysoft.
Yes it does, I created a recurring appointment that replicates for 10 times, exported all those record in excel, put the required attendee as my self (full name) for all records and imported it back, all of them got the expected result. I'm working on an on prem version right now,.
I modified my last answer to make it more rigorous.
I'd recommend you use C# Plugins to update Activity Party Lists.
Please refer to the following links:
Ok, when you export the appointment = recurring instance or recurring exception, you might be able to update the required attendee. I am referring to updating the recurring appointment master which inturn updates the appointment instance.
Hi Lu Hao,
Thank you for the links and suggestion to use plugin.
I was able to achieve this using Kingswaysoft Derived column option.
