I use both legacy and Unified interface app for D365 CRM online. When an email (ex: notification with link to CRM record) is sent out from CRM to my outlook, clicking on the link from my outlook directs me to the legacy UI instead of opening the email activity record in unified interface.
Can you let me know how this can be fixed? Thank you!!!!
Is the link to the CRM record in the email a link in the web client app (legacy)?
The link to the record opened in the web client app is different from that in UCI (Unified interface).
In fact, when you add a record link to an email, you could paste the link into the browser address bar to see which app it is open in.
If my idea above is correct, then the solution is that you need to open this record in UCI and add its link to the email.
If you are using Microsoft Flow, you can paste in your URL for your Dynamics system, append it with the App ID of your model driven App and then get the ID of your record and put that into the URL. Like this:
testcrm.crm4.dynamics.com/main.aspx ID>&newWindow=true&pagetype=entityrecord&etn=<Entity identifer>=<RecordID>
If you are using the original workflow engine and the dynamic URL content block in emails, then you can't get the record ID and therefore it will "currently" only open up in the Web refresh interface. The only issue with the flow method above is that you need to hard code your App ID (or use variables but it might get tricky) so if you have multiple model driven apps, this method would become a problem.
Thanks Matt for the details. I am using the original workflow engine and including RecordURL to provide the link to the CRM record.
If you are using the native workflow engine, then I would suggest you install the Dynamics 365 Workflow Tools. There is an option to get the Record App URL (new Unified Interface URL). Then you can use the output of this step and put it into your email. I have successfully used this.
Here is a link to the tool on GitHub: github.com/.../Dynamics-365-Workflow-Tools
Thank you, I will try this.
