In a new system build we're working on, a customer currently has Account / Contact linked up to a custom entity as a Many-Many relationship.
However, they have since realised they can't search this in the way they want, so wish to switch to a MultiSelect Dropdown field instead. This is easy enough to create and add the the fields, but can anyone suggest a good way of migrating the data. Preferably one with little coding/vb script required.
I'm afraid, your case needs coding. I'm not aware of a solution without code.
To do this,
1) Create your multi select option set.
2) Create a C# Console Application that uses the Dynamics SDK, to connect and query all the N:N records that connect the contact and account.
3) Set the value of the multi select option set incrementally while you are looping through the records in step 2. Here is how to set a multi optionset in the SDK https://www.inogic.com/blog/2018/09/multi-select-option-set-field-in-dynamics-365-v9-0/
