I have two entities A and B linked by 1:N relation. One instance of A can be linked to many instance of B. I tried creating a record of "A" and multiple "B" records linked to the "A" record in single Web API call using Deep Insert.
Also I am populating a field of "A" in a plugin (synchronous preoperation plugin triggered on creation of "A"). This field is mapped in the 1:N relation from "A" to "B". But the value of this field is not mapped to the field in "B" when created using Deep Insert Web API.
Is this supposed to happen?
Mapping works when you are creating entity B record from entity A manually from Forms. Since you are populating field on entity A using plugin so mapping will not be executed

Thanks for the clarification mate.
Here's what I found:
a. I wrote a plugin to be triggered on the child entity (B) creation. In the debugger I checked for this plugin and found that when when created using Deep Insert the reference to parent record(A) was null. (This plugin was synchronous preoperation plugin.)
b. I used a workflow on entity B to populate the field from entity A.
