I would like to know the best way or if there is a guide / blog on how to "share"/"transfer" information between entities.
Here is a use case:
- I have an account in which I have a tax value
- I want that the quotes related to this account retrieve the "tax value" and use it (filled as default value) in its tax field
What is the best way for that ? N:1 relationship ? Is there any good guide ?
Thank very much in advance,
Thank you for your query.
I assume Tax is a custom field on the Account entity, and you need to copy it to Quote Products.
There are multiple approaches, you can choose based on your requirements.
1 - Relationship Mapping:
We can copy values from a parent record to a child, for example, when a Quote is created from an Account form, the Tax value can be copied from Account to Quote, similarly from Quote to Quote Product.
If you go this route, you need to define the Tax field on Quote and Quote product.
Once you have the fields in place, follow these steps:
Similarly, repeat the steps to copy Tax value from Quote to Quote Line.
Edit mappings for quote_details relationship:
Save and Publish the entity.
Please note, this will only work when the Quote is created from the Account form (related section or a sub-grid).
2 - Real-time workflow:
If the value is available on the Quote, you can set it using workflow (however the value be set after you save the quote line).
Create a workflow to copy Tax from Quote to Quote Line:
Activate the workflow.
In you scenario, the relationship mapping and workflow should do the job done.
Thank you Wahaj, very clear !
