Hi folks,I want to keep going in my journey to become a Dynamics developper and my next step is plugin developpement
Here is my project:
- I want that, after created an account, a call to an external API is made to retrieve automatically some data and fill them in account fields
Is a plugin the correct way to do this ?
Do you know any good tutorial on this ? or any good tutorial on plugin development ?
Thank you in advance for your guidance,Fred
Can you give some information like what is the externa system like is it Oracle, SAP, Salesforce, etc.
Because depending on that a solution Will be implemented.
I don't know much about plug-in development, but you can use power automate for this requirement.
You can first use the `When a row is added, modified or deleted` trigger to trigger the flow:
Then use Http action to request to the third-party API and obtain data:
Finally, you can use `Update a row` action to update the data:
If this helped you, I'd appreciate it if you'd mark this as a Verified Answer, which may in turn help others as well.
Here is my use case :
I have an API where I can request data. These data are governemental information on companies
- What I want is:
- The Sale creates an account
- When he enters the name of the company, a call is made to the API with the company name.
- As many companies can have the same name, it will return me several lines.
- I want the Sale to select the correct one
- Once the Sale selects the one he wants, another call is made and it retrieves all the other data (adresses...) and fill the entity fields
Is PowerAutomate still a good choice then ?
Many thanks in advance,
Yes, Plugin is a good solution for this approach, but why you call the api with Company Name, I think there is a lot of api with "License Number" or something like that, to reduce response data list.
so, Now when you get all companies you can set those data in another entity and let the sale to select one of them to populate it in your parent entity.
beside Plugin, you can do this by using Workflow (with Custom Activity) and do this in generic way with a configuration entity inside the Dynamics CE.
