Please help me understand how I can import details for existing records or add data to existing records. I am unable to find a similar option of Definition group or Update existing record like the one available in AX 2012. Please find attached screenshot for reference.
There is no option like Ax 2102 exist anymore . Just Export data from your entity to get the template and update the information for the records you exported and import it again. Update is handled using key defined on the entity and handled by framework.
In addition to what Sukrut mentioned, explore data entities. Data entities are used to import/export data in D365.
You can use the D365 Fin Ops Add-in in Microsoft Excel to get access to the data entities and select the fields you would like to have in your file. After you have finished selecting the entity and it's fields you can renew the page and the information from the data entity will be available in your Excel-file.
There is also a filtering option so you can avoid large documents and have only the information you are looking for to edit or to add.

Thank you for the reply. I understand that I can use data entities. I have exported and imported data using the data entities.
Please help me understand a step wise process of what I can do if I have already imported a set of data and need to either update certain records in the existing data in D365 and / or add additional details to the same entity without destroying or changing the existing records.
Here is what i did to verify this and hope this help you understand this little better:
1. Exported customer groups from system using Data Entities.
2. Took same file, updated customer group description in the file.
3. Re-import the updated file.
Import was successfully and it updated the description as i expected. Similarly, you should be able to import additional fields which are present in the entity. The process for update is no different than the original import. See how import shows that data was updated.
However updates may not work for all entities. What entity are you trying to use? can you verify first with a very simple entity and then take on complex one. For e.g. I consider customer more complex than customer group.
Please share which entity you are trying to import for updates and what issues you are having.
If you don't see any updates and your import is successful, probability is that you haven't selected the latest file during import. On data entity, select import options > Re-import. Select your latest file and then click to import.

In your import template keep the records you want to update ,don't worry about the key , it should be there , change the columns which you want to change and do import . Verify if your changes are properly updated after job ends successfully.

In some cases, not all fields can be updated. E.g. product Variant number is key on the entity so it obviously can't be updated. If you want to get this update, best would be to export data, delete data from AX, upload again. Obviously, you shouldn't try to update if transaction exists OR system may throw errors.
