Is there a way to default the financial dimensions that you have populated on the Vendor Invoice journal onto the Vendor Payment journal when Balance by Dimension is turned on?
Debit Expense account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 99.00
Credit Vendor account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 99.00
Debit Expense account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 100.00
Credit Vendor account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 100.00
When going through the payment proposal, once you select the Vendor and transfer it into the Payment Journal, I'd like to see:
Debit Vendor account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 99.00
Credit Bank account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 99.00
Debit Vendor account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 100.00
Credit Bank account-FinDim1-FinDim2-FinDim3 100.00
Out of the box AX defaults the financial dimensions from the Vendor Master and the Bank account, which is not what the requirement is. The requirement is to have the same string of financial dimensions that were posted at the invoice level to default onto the Vendor payment lines (for both the Vendor account and the Bank account) so that the dimensions are balanced. AND, have one cheque that's generated from the Bank account for multiple Vendor payment lines. For the example above, there should only be one cheque with a value of 199.00.
Has anyone come across anything like this? If so, how did you resolve it? Configuration? Customization?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I wonder why all these dimensions are used on the vendor. Usually dimensions are used to track types of cost and revenue. What is the purpose on the vendor level?
AX can have multiple invoices paid with one single payment transaction. During settlement, AX will post additional transactions to balance transactions automatically. It will not drive the dimensions from a marked transaction to the journal line.
I guess I should've mentioned that this requirement is for Trust Accounting. If you think of your finances being managed by a Bank, it'll make sense on why the Bank requires the Financial Dimension(s) to be applied on all of your Income and Expenses. It identifies if a Vendor (out of a list of many vendors) has been paid by André, Kartik, James, John, & Bob who have an account at ABC Bank. Similar concept on the Income receipt side, but that's not an issue.
Hope that sort of clears the air a bit.
Let me know if I can provide any additional info.
There are two features available that you might want to take a look at beforehand
a) AP - paramters - ledger and sales tax - payment proposal section
There is a parameter called 'inherit invoice dimensions'.
Unfortunately, it is bound to the RU config key and you would first make it available to test it.
Not that additional modifications might be required to get this functionality work in your country
b) The AP method of payments form includes a special financial dimension section/parameter if the config key for NOR is activated.
Also here you can test whether you can make use of this standard feature to get your requirement fixed.
If None of those features fit, you might have to go the way of making a system modification.
When doing that try first whether you can get this information by creating Report/queries/etc., that is in a way that does not affect the standard financial dimension inheritance, as the change of the dimension inheritance can quickly get complex and cause Problems in other Areas where you do not like to have it.
Would be great if you could keep us updated here on how you decided to go on to tackle this issue.
Many thanks and best regards,
Apologies for the delayed response.
We tried turning on the license keys for RU and NOR but unfortunately, they didn't work. Plus, we ended up doing a minor customization for it.
I appreciate your input with this though.
Implementing a system modification is probably the best available option if you can't use the local features. Yet, especially in regards to financial dimensions, please test the modification thoroughly to be absolutely sure it works properly for each of your payment scenarios.
Is there still something open here?
Could you share to us how do you finally fixed your problem?
I have the same requirement too.
What customization you finally did?
Hi Ludwig, can you expand on the 'RU Config' and where I might find additional information?
You can download the Russian localization guide from the MS Partnersource.
It is written in Russian language but google or bing translate do a good job :-)
