i am facing and issue when ever i am trying to register a small asset in the asset master an old number is appearing in the sequence and after several attempts system is generating new next available number. please refer the below snapshot. i am using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3.
cay anyone support me where it went wrong and why after several attempts new number getting generated?

You can go to the number sequence setup for the asset group by going to the fixed asset group setup and then checking the details of of the number sequence.
First clean up any existing numbers in the list and then update the next number in the number sequence form to the number of your requirement. The system will then fetch the newly updated number sequence automatically as per your requirement.

below is the snapshot from Asset Group. there is no number available. and "Auto Number" is also ticked. please have a look.
Right click the number sequence code field and click view details or go to main table option, it would take you to the number sequence setup.
From there update the next number sequence and clean up any existing numbers in the list from the status list button on the top by using Ctrl+A and press Alt+F9 to delete any previous number in the list
Then update the next number in the sequence in the General section of number sequence area as per your desired number and close the form for Number Sequence setup.
Check again and confirm
