Hello DAX people,
When we install a hotfix, does it cancel the customization in the objects to update?
Based on the Tag I assume this is AX 2012.
Basically in Ax 2012 there are kernel hotifix and application hotfixes so not sure which type of hotfix you are applying.
For Kernel hotfix every AX component (AOS, AX clients, .NET BC, etc.) installed to any machine would have to be upgraded to the same kernel and application build levels to be at a supported level and most importantly to avoid any strange side effects when using different build versions between AX components.
Kernel hotfix just upgrades the dll’s and exe’s of Dynamics AX. As this is a Kernel hotfix you do not need to go through the X++ compilation and CIL generation process as it does not have any relation with the database. You will just need to restart the AOS once.
Application hotfixes – Application hotfixes are those that are provided by using application model (.axmodel) files to any of the Microsoft application patch layers (SYP, GLP, FPP, SLP).
so based on the above it should not cancel the customization but as this application hotfix will be applied to MS standard layers you will have to perform a process of Compiling and CIL generation in a test environments to identify and fix the conflicts if any.
Thank you Harshal for the explanation. It was very helpful.
