Day 2 at Convergence EMEA 2015 kicked off with the keynote “Achieving business transformation through the power of the cloud” where we had a chance to listen Microsoft executives, customers as well as business thought leaders share their perspectives and insights on the cloud. We live in a world where devices outnumber people and more data is created than can be consumed. But how safe is that data? While the cloud brings unforeseen possibilities such as big, real-time data, systems of intelligence, and the Internet of Things, it also brings challenges in terms of compliance, security and trust. Today’s sessions focused on the cloud side of things – here are our top picks from day 2: Cyber security in today’s cloud first, mobile first world Cybercrime has become more sophisticated, affecting almost all industries across the globe. With an average cost of a data breach exceeding $3.5 million, cybersecurity solutions must be one step ahead. Robert Madelin, Senior Innovation Adviser, European Commission, discussed cyber threats and the EU's part in defence with Jean-Philippe Courtois, President of Microsoft International, during today’s keynote. People expect authorities to keep them safe even in cyberspace yet citizens must remember that they also have the responsibility to prevent attacks by installing an appropriate anti-virus software. Europe sees a digital future changing everything, but to get the appropriate security and privacy legislation in place, people need to stop make different rules and legislations that get on the way and slow down the progress. Understanding the risk to your business should be a critical part of your business strategy, and we learned how to think like a cybercriminal to better protect against future attacks, implement a holistic cybersecurity strategy, and leverage Microsoft solutions to help defend against cyberattack. Real Madrid and their 450M – happy - fans We had a privilege to hear Rafael de los Santos, New Media Director from Real Madrid, share their story during today’s keynote … in Barcelona! Have to admire his bravery – chapeau! As the leading sports franchise in the world, Real Madrid has a passionate fan base, but what they didn’t have was a way to directly engage with the 450 million global supporters. Real Madrid asked Microsoft Services to develop a new, cloud-based technology solution that would enable them to bring the club’s 450 million fans under one interactive platform, which would allow them to engage with the club’s global fans as well as collect and analyze data on fans. To achieve this, Real Madrid is using a combination of Dynamics CRM, Azure, Cortana analytics and power BI. By engaging with its fans in more personal ways, Real Madrid wanted to increase revenue, customize marketing initiatives, and reinforce the club’s leadership position in the worldwide sports industry. In today’s hyper competitive economic environment, it is critical for financial institutions to achieve sustainable profitability through customer retention, and drive growth through customer profitability and organisational efficiency. It was great to hear real life stories from three different organisations on how they use Microsoft solutions for financial services to drive real business benefits: DVB Bank SE is a global leader in the international transport finance business, who suffered from limited global transparency and limited, costly information access. DVB Bank chose Office CRM and Sharepoint for seamless integration with existing systems to deliver better service for customers by saving research time and relying on timeliness and accuracy of corporate data. Temenos, a global banking software provider that offers core banking, payments, wealth management, and business analytics solutions, shared their real life story on Azure during the keynote and how it has helped them expand their business even in emerging countries, giving an example of microfinancing in Africa. Metro Bank, the first new high street bank in the UK for over 100 years, on the other hand is reinventing the customer experience by putting the customer first and eliminating the all-too-familiar pain-points experienced at a bank – the long waits, complex rules, confusing processes, and barrage of marketing offers. With nearly 100% year-on-year growth, Metro Bank is succeeding – but not by serving customers, by creating "fans.“ The company is not simply focused on the number of new accounts, or the number of pounds in deposits or lending. Daily performance metrics actually include factors of customer happiness. It was great to meet such nice people across the UK! Day 2 was inspiring – it’s amazing how much technology and cloud have progressed in the past few years and for sure we’ve seen nothing yet. Possibilities are limitless! Looking forward to day 3.
