For the second year in a row, 12,000 attendees descended upon Atlanta today to kickoff Microsoft Convergence 2015. Today's fun and excitement started with the opening keynote, highlighting how Microsoft technology empowers people, companies and industries to achieve more. "Empowering every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more." We got a look at Office 2016 and Satya announced the global availability of Delve, a tool designed to help transform your organization. Julia White previewed Skype for Business and looked at systems of intelligence like Microsoft Social Engagement. To close out the morning Kirill Tatarinov went behind the scenes with Microsoft customers AccuWeather, Wash and Pandora Jewelry. The biggest keynote surprise came when Satya shared his daily Microsoft Band data compared to that of an “unnamed professional athlete”, cautiously stating that this individual was in the 99% percentile among users. Moments later he welcomed Super Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson to the stage. Russell shared how technology and devices like the Microsoft Surface and OneNote help him be successful both personally and professionally. While the Surface drives the action on the sidelines, he uses technology off the field too, relying on Skype to connect with his niece and his family while he’s on the road. He finished his time on stage with a big thank you and his signature Go Hawks send off! After the keynote Russell and Satya continued their conversation on Twitter, expressing mutual respect and admiration. A series of concurrent sessions, interactive discussions and general sessions started following the keynote. Topics included big data, productivity, leadership and modern marketing to close out the evening. Julia White shared insights on the changing landscape of technology in the workplace. In the final session of the day Chris Capossela walked us through the transformation agenda that is empowering marketing at Microsoft. He outlined how people want to tell tons of stories, and they want to tell them everywhere they possible can possibly tell them, but discipline and value are critical pieces of the puzzle. "Have the discipline to invest your time where there is value, determine the value of the things you want to do, and then invest accordingly." Chris invited Allison Watson to the stage and she talked about how social media helps Microsoft take customers from unknown to known with the work being done in the Microsoft Social Media Command Center. She then walked us through how the Microsoft Cloud for Government campaign is using Microsoft Dynamics Marketing to become more effective with how they spend marketing dollars. Tomorrow we look forward to starting early and diving into more sessions with topics including SMB success in a mobile-first, cloud-first world, empowering your mobile workforce and re-imagining the enterprise. We’ll have lots of interactive, concurrent and deep-dive sessions running throughout the day as well.
