Five Questions to Ask a Potential Software Partner
Finding a software expert will not only speed the research process, but will also ensure your company finds the best solution for your specific needs. When interviewing a software partner, make sure to ask these five questions:
1. Have you worked with companies like mine?
Not only should your potential partner have experience with similar companies, they should be able to give you details on the project, what worked, what didn’t work and provide case studies and references. Don’t risk your time and money on a partner that doesn’t have the experience to get the job done right.
2. What can I expect when it comes to implementation?
The project manager should be able to give you a timeline of how long it will take to implement your software system and train your employees. The timeline will depend on how many modules you will utilize (in Microsoft Dynamics GP you can choose from financial management, human resource management, business intelligence and reporting, supply chain management, workspace collaboration) and if you have any add-on products to implement.
3. What can I expect when it comes to support?
The reason to have a partner is so you have someone to turn to when you have questions or need assistance with your software. Find out how long it typically takes for the partner to respond to support requests and their hours of availability. Some partners like DFC Consultants offer support plans, which offer training classes and included support hours. These plans can be invaluable, especially when initially utilizing new software.
5. Do you offer training?
Choose a partner that is able to meet your training needs through one-on-one availability, training classes and user groups.
6. What is the experience level of your company and your employees?
Choose a company with an established history and experience implementing and supporting the software. Check their rating with the Better Business Bureau and see if they’re accredited.
Don’t place so much significance on the location of your partner. Technology allows for partners to reach you no matter the distance. The level of expertise and experience should outweigh geographical location. Find out the answers to these questions and any others you may have by contacting Jodi at DFC Consultants.
