Dynamics 365 Business Central and Power BI. How to setup Reporting Data, Content Packs and select Reports
Hello everyone, my name is Christos Pittis, and I am a Dynamics 365 Business Central/LS Express consultant, and I work for Memorli Business Solutions. Dynamics 365 Business Central is a business management solution for small and mid-sized organisations that automates and streamlines business processes and helps you manage your business. In this episode, I am going to show you how to setup Reporting Data, Power BI Content Packs, and select Power BI Reports.
Search for the Assisted Setup and locate the Setup Reporting Data option.
The Status is set to Not Competed, but it will change to Completed after we finish this exercise. Open the Setup Reporting Data page and click Next in the Reporting Data Setup wizard. Select “Create a new data set” in the I want to … field. The other options are, “Create a copy of an existing data set” and “Edit an existing data set”.
Click Add Filters.
In the Outstanding Quantity field enter > 0 which means greater than zero. The goal is to take out all not received Purchase Orders (on a line level).
Finally hit the Publish button.
A web service is created (OData URL) but in this example go ahead and click the Excel button to open the Purchase Orders Not Received excel file.
Save it and then Open.
The status is now set to Completed as expected.
Now we need to enable our business data for Power BI so that we can set up content packs with data coming out of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Dynamics 365 Business Central can be set up using Power BI, and if you check your Role Center, you might notice that we can embed some Power BI reports.
Go to web page http://powerbi.microsoft.com/ and sign in with the same office admin account.
Click Get Data
Click Get Services.
In the Search bar search for the Business Central Content Packs.
Select the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central – Customers List Content Pack and click Get it Now.
As you can see, Dynamics 365 Business Central data are available in Power BI!
Now switch back to Dynamics 365 Business Central and scroll down to the Power BI section
The Power BI Reports are active but please firstly go ahead and enable the reports - Click Select Reports.
Power BI reports can also be found in master data and lists, for example, Purchase Invoices (fact box).
