Word Layout: How to create and customize reports and documents with Custom Report Layouts in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016
Hello everyone, I trust you are having a good day. My name is Christos Pittis, and I am a Microsoft Dynamics NAV Consultant. In this episode, I am going to show you how to take advantage of Microsoft Office Word and create or customize reports and documents in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016.
A Word report design is taking into account Word document (.docx) that goes about as a format for review and printing reports from Microsoft Dynamics NAV customers. Word report formats empower you to plan report designs by utilizing Word 2013.
This feature incorporates including an implicit Word report format, making custom Word report designs on a report, and changing which report design is at present dynamic in a report.
Open your Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016 windows client and search for Report Layout Selection. Click on it. Search for the “Statement” report. Select that line and click on the Custom Layouts button at the top. Hit the New button so to create a new one. Place a check mark on the “Insert Word Layout Boolean” field and click OK. Change the Description and put something meaningful for you. In my example, I enter “Customer Statement Christos Pittis”. Have in mind that you can create different reports per company.
Open Microsoft Office Word and in the Search for online templates search bar, type customer statement, invoices, etc. In my scenario, I search for Customer Statement. The definition may be different, so I choose the “Billing Statement” one. Hit the create button and the Billing Statement opens up in a Microsoft Office Word document. Save the file to your computer.
Click on the Import Layout button and import the Billing Statement.
Now it’s time to edit the layout regarding adding new fields, change position, add logos, etc.
Click on the Custom Layouts button and then on the Edit Layout button. Microsoft Office Word will open up so we can make the changes we want.
I spent one hour to complete the report (I got assistance from a NAV developer, to be honest )so I will fast forward the video.
Also, make sure you update table 116
** Have in mind this the way we did it. You are advised to consult your developer first.
When you finish editing the report, close the report and hit yes in the following message “The report layout document has been edited in Word. Do you want to import the changes?”.
Lastly, go to the Report Selection Layout page and select Custom Layout in the Selected Layout field. In the Custom Layout Description select the newly created layout.
