Another new feature in Dynamics CRM 2013 is the ability to format text fields into click-to-call phone number fields. This is done through the customizations and system settings area.

To setup this new functionality, first go into the Administrations area then System Settings, scroll to the bottom of the General tab and you’ll see the phone formatting options.

Once you have configured the system settings to enable click-to-call create a new Single Line Text field and set the Format to Phone.

Create a record and fill in the field with a phone number. You’ll notice that this new field is now clickable. When you click this field depending on the system setting it will ask to dial the number via Skype or Lync.
