I need to set potential customer look up field to only for contact entity record.
By default out of the box functionality gave a pop up with two entity type -contact & account.
As per my requirement ,I just need a contact and related view for that pop up to set in potential customer field.
OOB you will get that and there is no Supported way to get rid of that behaviour.
However, there is a workaround.
1. Create a new Lookup field mapped to Contact Entity
2. Hide the existing Customer Field.
3. Create a JScript function which will populated the existing Customer Field with the new lookup field selection. This is to ensure that the OOB Reports and Views do not break.
4. This JScript function will run on the OnChange event of the new Contact Lookup field
Hope that helps
First of all thanks for your quick response.
In our crm instance already a lot of record has potential customer field set.
If I will set new field on form for set lookup of contact and remove (or Hide) default field potential customer from form then it's not visible to user when they open the form of old record.
Is there any workaround for this situation?
You are using CRM 2011 right?
By default, Opportunity entity already had the Contact lookup field (OOB field in CRM).
Its name is ParentContactId
And also Account...
You might consider to not create new one field because in CRM 2013, this field is very important.
If in CRM 2013 later you can control this Potential Customer only using Account/Contact fields.
If users fill out the Contact it will auto populate the Potential Customer.
And also if you create Opportunity from qualifying a Lead, the you create Account and Contact, the Potential Customer also will be auto populated.
So, I suggest you to keep using the same field in your CRM 2011, then you can show/display the Contact field into the form.
So overall here:
1. Display the Contact field to the Opportunity Form
2. Make the Potential Customer is read-only.
So, it makes the users will only have control to the Contact field, not the Potential Customer which they can only select Contact record when creating new Opp through Opp form.
If you create the Opp by qualifying the Lead, you also need to be careful because it can be referred to the Account instead of Contact, so you might need to have Plugin to control this.
Remember, just use the OOB fields first.
Hope this helps you.
In that case use JScript to Show / Hide the field.
If the Record is new (FormType is 1) show the New Lookup field else in all condition show the OOB Field.
In this way when users enter the Customer Name first time, they only have the option to select Contact since the new field is a lookup to contact.
