We have a CRM development sandbox instance that we just upgraded to CRM Online 2015 Update 1. However, we have not yet upgraded our Production instance. If we make customizations in our development sandbox instance can we still promote those changes to our Production instance (using an unmanaged solution) even though they are different versions?
Unfortunately, customizations cannot be migrated from 2015 (7.0) to 2015u1 (7.1). Here is the export/import compatibility matrix (from https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg328109.aspx )
If you want to create your customizations in the dev environment and you don't care how they get to production, you could use a tool like the Configuration Migration utility to recreate them on production (details at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn647421.aspx )
If this was helpful in answering your question, I would appreciate it if you would mark this as the verified answer.
I won't recommend pushing solution from higher version to lower version. It always recommended to test the solution with same version before pushing it to production.
You may able to push solution from crm 2011 update 1 to crm 2015 without any issue as long solution does not include any customization that is available only in crm 2015 update 1.
Thank you Aiden!
