I created word templates for an entity
How can I update/delete/edit existing templates that I created for an entity?
I tried to navigate to Settings->business->Templates but its not showing the ones that I created
Make changes to the old template file and re-upload it. I tried it, it worked.
It is creating new template for me
Once you upload a template you cannot cannot download or edit it from CRM.
If you need to keep your templates in a safe location outside of CRM
Make sure the name of the file is same.
So is it like if we lose the template file we will not be able to delete it from the system?
no you should be able to delete. Updating is the problem
I am not seeing the templates that I have created here
I tried switching the views too
Were you able to see the templates that you have created in that view?
I reckon you uploaded them from the entity in which case they get created as personal templates.
Add system wide templates from settings -> business -> templates
You are right, I created them from the entity. I will try creating them from the templates section.
btw is there a way I can delete the personal templates?
You will have to use advanced find and delete from there
We can download the existing document template from MS CRM 2016 using PDF-Docs product from Dynamics Objects
This is plain stupid. I don't start to guess how the requirements gathering for this capability has been done. You cannot even include the "Document Template" object in a solution which would be logical. How did MS think the quality assurance process would be handled from dev to QA to Prod? Manually? We have a couple of templates we would need to change, but the person who did these did not know that templates would not be able to download from the system and now the person is not working for us anymore... We need to do some reverse engineering with the templates now.
Is there a way, can I export xml schema from the downloaded word template? Rather than updating the downloaded template, I am searching for the possibilities to associate XML schema to another word template embedded with my company letterhead.
You could try unzipping the word template file find the customization section and copy this into the unzipped letterhead.
I downloaded a word template from "Documents template" link. After opening the downloaded word template and by navigating to "Developer" menu -> XML Mapping Pane, under XML Mapping section, I can find custom xml of MSCRM (urn:microsoft-crm/document-template/incident/112). From here I can include the fields required for mail merge.
Now my ask is about the possibility to download this custom xml from the download work template and then to export in another word template of my own.
Joe's solution is best, but you can do this with a workflow also. (It's more a side effect than a solution but it works).
In dynamics as you may know, you can attach a template to a note (annotation) via a workflow.
Create a workflow > check the box for on demand > Add step > perform action > set word template > select the source as the template you want, target as
where entity-name is and instance of that entity you will run the workflow on.
When you run the workflow, it will just output the template itself as it was when you uploaded it, IF it's not a template of that specific entity-name above. This is the side effect.
If it does happen to be the workflow of entity-name, then it will output a completed document using the template which is obviously not what you are looking for.
In this case, you will need to use the notes section of a different entity to store the template.
Also read the responding posts below the above link if you don't get the gist.
Be sure to remove the exported text. This is he only difference I can see to the original uploaded template.
I consider myself lucky I was doing template stuff before the hard drive went in my machine as I was a a couple of document template revisions out of date.
Keep your document templates backed up as soon as you update them. It's better to avoid this hassle.
