I am using visual studios 2015 and trying to use fetch xml to filter leads by company the display the lead and associated notes. I just dont know fetch that well.
you can use XRM toolbox - it has two tools which can help you to build and validate fetch XMLs.
1. fetch XML builder
2. fetch XML tester
Create your query as best you can in Advanced Find and then use the Download Fetch XML button. You'll not be able to do everything this way, such as aggregation, but it's a good way to start if you're not used to writing FetchXML. You can edit the output in notepad and/or paste it into the XRMToolBox tools (as Rawish suggests) for fine tuning.
