I wrote a workflow and attached it to a button from RibbonWorkbench.
Strangely, the workflow is triggered when I click the button, but the email it is supposed to send is not sent. The workflow is an "on-demand" process.
When I change the workflow to trigger when the entity is modified, emails are sent no problem. Not really sure why this would happen, as they are calling the same workflow.
I followed the guide here:
Why you create a custom button , the out of box “Run Workflows" button can achieve the same thing since the workflow is an on demand workflow.
Hope it helps.

I like how you think! We create a button because users often don't wish to complete two clicks and a scroll, nor do they wish to have to search for the correct workflow. Buttons insure that the right workflow occurs.
